Renaissance Studies at Notre Dame is home to more than 40 faculty exploring the Renaissance and Early Modern periods from a variety of disciplinary perspectives. Our community of historians, literary scholars, art historians, philosophers, musicologists, architectural historians, theologians, historians of science, librarians, and curators are engaged in exciting research, teaching, and outreach focused on the period 1300-1700. 

At Notre Dame, the Renaissance is interdisciplinary and global: faculty and students pursue projects from Latin America to the Ottoman Empire, from Ireland to the Indian Ocean. Our Global Gateways in Dublin, London, and Rome sponsor research and host conferences, seminars, and courses. Hesburgh Library houses an impressive array of manuscript and early printed sources, while special relationships with the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan and Vatican Library promote ongoing research collaborations and conferences.
